The Cow is the purest type of sub-human life”-Mahatma Gandhi

MK Choli ’s cattle shed

As you walk through MK Choli ’s cattle shed, memories of Govina Haadu aka song of the cow- folklore from Karnataka where the cowherd summons his cattle as “Gange Baare, Gouri baare, Tungabhadreye neenu baare” flashes through the mind. In MK Choli’s well-organized cattle shed one can find over 30 cattle including the breeds of  mura, pandarpura gouli and karnali .

As if taking inspiration from the folklore Choli has named his cattle after all the major rivers of India. Among them are Godavari, Kaveri, Ganga, Yamuna, and Bagalkot’s very own Krishna. In India, rivers and cows, both are considered mothers and have cultural and religious significance. They are revered as the embodiment of abundance, maternal care, nourishment and life itself.

These cows are neatly tied in rows, each with its name prominently displayed in front of their place. But perhaps the most intriguing feature of Choli's setup is the provision of comfort for his cows.  Dedicated workers are responsible for caring for these cows, milking them twice daily. Food and feed are stored and organized, with each having its place. Additionally, there is a mechanized water system to ensure the cows have plenty to drink.

Choli also ensures that his cows are comfortable by providing them with a music system and fans."When I play music for them, the cows seem to produce more milk," Choli proudly states, highlighting the unique aspect of his cattle management approach.
